Copyrights

Where a name is given here for the maker of a tune, either copyright information is given along with the tune or I believe that it has passed into the public domain.

The tunes that are contained in this collection are mostly tunes to which no copyright applies; to the best of my knowledge and belief. However, all of these tunes were made by someone. The informal processes by which they tend to be transmitted make it easy to lose the makers' names. My knowledge is not perfect. It may be that there are tunes here whose copyright status I have misunderstood. If I have included anything to which anybody feels that they have rights, they should please contact me. Lack of any copyright information on a tune should certainly NOT be taken as an indication that the tune is indeed in the public domain.

Having taken into account all such rights of the makers and publishers of any individual tunes, and of any others, I am publishing it for use under the following conditions.

• Where copyright applies to a tune, it is your responsibility to make your own arrangement with the holder concerning any use you may wish to make of it.
• My interest in publishing this is that The Tunes should be played. I am putting these tunes online for the sake of their being learnt, played, taught, and generally enjoyed. It should therefore be treated in the same spirit as publicly distributable software or a nice jig :- ie, Information taken from here may be copied and distributed freely, it may not be sold. I'm not charging for it, nor can anybody else.
